15 Best Classic and Supercar Shows and Events in 2019

With so many classic car shows and supercar events throughout the year, it’s hard to pin down those essential dates in your calendar. We’ve compiled a list of the 15 very best shows – the ones you really don’t want to miss – so you can enjoy the ultimate automotive experiences in 2019. Check out our tips as well, to ensure you get the most out of every event.

February 14-17, London Classic Car Show

ExCeL, London

The London Classic Car Show brings together some of the most beautiful classic cars (plus a number of modern classics) under one roof. Dealers, car clubs and enthusiasts combine to celebrate the best the classic and historic car world has to offer, with displays along the Grand Avenue and talks from the likes of Nigel Mansell, Quentin Willson and Sir Stirling Moss.

We have exhibited at the show for the last two years and will be returning in 2019 – come and see us on Stand C70!

Top Tip

The show gets very busy at the weekend, so if you’d like a more relaxed experience, go for the Thursday evening preview and join us for a glass of Champagne surrounded by some beautiful classic cars.

March 7-17, Geneva International Motor Show

Palexpo, Geneva

We’ve seen major Motor Shows come and go but the Geneva International Motor Show has been a mainstay in the automotive calendar since the turn of the 20th Century. It is, perhaps appropriately, neutral ground for the world’s carmakers and is very often the first place to see the latest production and concept cars. , last year saw a focus on electric vehicles but combustion engined exotic supercars remain a big draw, with the likes of the Ferrari 488 Pista, McLaren Senna GTR and Bugatti Chiron Sport drawing large crowds.

Expect to see more supercar and prestige car debuts at the 2019 show, including (we predict) the Pininfarina PF-Zero and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4.

Top Tip

The show is big – beyond the scale of any event in the UK – so be prepared to walk… a lot! Don’t be afraid to get up close to the cars on display and if there’s a car you’re interested in, it’s highly likely the staff on the stand will let you sit in and get a feel for the cabin.

May 16-19, London Motor Show

ExCeL, London

Following its rebirth in 2016 with shows at Battersea Park that year and the following year, it was hosted at ExCeL in 2018 and will be there again in 2019. Features include a live driving arena and the popular Built in Britain zone, which last year incuded the likes of Lister, Elemental, David Brown, Caterham, McLaren and Aston Martin.

2019 sees a focus on tech at the show, form in-car technology to the latest developments in safety and telematics.

Top Tip

Compared to other expos on the list, it’s a relatively small event, making it quite manageable to navigate your way through in an afternoon.

May 15-18, Mille Miglia Storica

Brescia, Italy

Since its rebirth in 1977, the Mille Miglia Storica is a race exclusively for pre-1958 classic and historic cars that have participated in the original Mille Miglia races. For the 430 entrants, the 37th re-enactment of the race beings in Brescia and takes a route that takes in Cervia, Rome and the very heart of the Italian luxury automotive world, Bologna.

The last three years have been won by Alfa Romeo 6Cs (in fact, variants of the model took the top three spots in 2018) – will 2019 see a win for Lancia, Bugatti, or perhaps Fiat?

Top Tip

If you’re taking part, keep in mind it’s a long race and you’ll be driving for long periods each day. To that end, it’s important that you’re as healthy as your car!

Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italy

A favourite among the team here at JBR Capital, the Concorso d’Elegenza brings together 50 historic cars in the beautiful grounds of Villa d’Este. The views of Lake Como and the grounds of the Villa are simply spectacular – combined with some of the world’s most stunning cars on display, it’s a veritable treat for the eyes.

Highlights in 2018 included class winners such as the Alfa Romeo 33/2 Stradale, a Lancia Stratos, Porsche Carrera GTS and Maserati 250F. Expect to see rare and unusual classics, as well as some modern supercars and concepts.

June 5-6, London Concours

Honourable Artillery Company, London

Although on a smaller scale to the Concours at Hampton Court in September, the London Concours has a delightful ‘garden party’ feel to it, despite being located bang in the middle of the City. Cars are on display courtesy of dealers, manufacturers and a number of private owners and enthusiasts who are vying for those coveted Concours awards.

Highlights in 2018 spanned the ages, with everything from an 1858 Panhard Levassor to a 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB, to a 1995 McLaren F1 and 2014 Bugatti Veyron. Expect to see similar era-defining cars at the 2019 event.

Top Tip

The HAC grounds are exposed to the elements and there’s little shade, so hats and sunglasses are highly recommended!

July 4-7, Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood, West Sussex

The Duke of Richmond’s garden party, of sorts, has reached an epic scale, both in terms of the show’s physical footprint and its importance in the motoring calendar. The show is vast and features just about everything any motor racing fan could hope to see, as well as some of the latest supercars and hypercars in the Supercar Paddock.

If you’re lucky enough to bag a viewing point (ideally in one of the grandstands or in a hospitality tents), you’ll get a prime view of the cars racing up the Hill. Everything from pre-war historics to modern hypercars, drift and F1 cars vie for the fastest times.

Top Tip

The area around Goodwood is a nightmare for traffic during the event. If you can, book a hotel or ‘glamping’ spot nearby and take a shuttle or short walk to the show.

Utilising much of the iconic track’s infield, the Silverstone Classic brings together manufacturers, car owners’ clubs and 100,000 motoring enthusiasts for a thrilling weekend celebrating all things automotive.

On the track, the grid is typically packed with interesting cars – a highlight in 2017, for example, was a collection of 41 Jaguar XJ220s taking to the track.

Top Tip

Be sure to visit the garages under the Silverstone Wing, where you can get up close and personal with the cars and race teams and truly experience the sights, sounds and smells of the circuit!

August 3-4, Beaulieu Supercar Weekend

Beaulieu, Hampshire

Classics, modern cars and super cars descend on the New Forest in August for the Beaulieu Supercar Weekend. With a mix of static displays and demo runs, it’s a great place to see cars ranging from a Ferrari F40 to a Ford GT up close.

As befits the stately setting, the number of attendees is lower than other shows, at around 10,000 across the weekend, so it won’t feel quite as claustrophobic as some!

Top Tip

If you want to be part of the weekend in a bigger way, you can apply to have your own supercar featured at the show.

August 9-16, Monterey Car Week

Monterey, California

While the focus of Monterey Car Week is the auctions, there are many other events taking place on the California coast during the week, such as classic car forums, a Tour d’Elegance and of course The Quail.

On the auction front, Gooding & Co, RM Sotheby’s and Bonham’s are the key players. Along with Mecum, Russo & Steele and Worldwide Auctioneers, they sold 843 cars for a total value of $371 million at the 2018 auctions. The star of the week was the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for a record-breaking $48.4 million. Expect to see the very best examples on sale in 2019, with the potential for more records to be smashed!

Top Tip

As ever, it’s essential you do your homework on any cars in which you have an interest in bidding. Attend the previews and take the advice of an expert on any car; don’t rely on the auction houses’ descriptions.

September 12-22, International Motor Show

Frankfurt, Germany

The mega-event that is the International Motor Show alternates between Paris and Frankfurt – 2019 is the turn of Frankfurt to host once again. Naturally, the likes of BMW, Porsche and Mercedes like to show their best on home turf, but it’s also a terrific opportunity to see the latest and greatest, from concept cars and prototypes to full unveilings of production cars.

In 2018 (in Paris) we saw the unveiling of the Ferrari Monza SP1/SP2 and the concept Audi R8 GT3 Evo. We can’t wait to see what the 2019 International Motor Show has in store for us.

Top Tip:

Most, if not all, of the debuts are known well ahead of time – so keep an eye on the automotive press to see determine which cars are on your ‘must see’ list before you attend.

September 13-15, Goodwood Revival

Goodwood, West Sussex

The iconic Goodwood motor Circuit hosts this spectacular classic car event that, while not quite on the scale of the Festival of Speed, is still a huge event with some 150,000 people attending over the course of three days.

Despite the incredible value of many of the cars on the grid (2018’s Kinara trophy race saw a combined car value of close of £200 million), the racing is fast, close and fierce. It’s not unusual to see a few close scrapes and some ‘offs’ but the skill of the drivers at the helm of these stunning cars is nothing short of breath-taking.

Top Tip

It’s strongly encouraged that you arrive in period costume – the vast majority of attendees do and it really does add to the experience. Also, dress for all weathers; it’s had its share of rain in the past!

November 8-10, Classic Motor Show

NEC, Birmingham

The enormous NEC hosts the Classic Motor Show every November. The best cars tend to be on display with the car clubs in Hall 1 (our partners, Lamborghini Club UK, always bring some very special cars, such as the Diablo, Espada and LM002). Hall 2 hosts the auction and the dealers in Hall 3 will have some beautiful classic cars on display.

It’s a big show but easily manageable in a day if you stick to the halls that interest you. 2019 will be the 35th anniversary of the event, with some 75,000 attendees expected over the weekend.

Top Tip

Unless your interest extends to nuts and bolts, avoid the larger halls that are packed with parts and memorabilia vendors. These areas are extremely busy and it can make navigating the show an unpleasant experience.
