Delivered new through Carriage House Motor Cars Ltd – NY and built to order for the famed designer Jamie Drake. This Corniche stayed in the same single ownership from 1991 through to 2016 – where it resided at the glamorous NY address of 5th Avenue and in later years in Miami. The Corniches production spanned over two decades from 1971 to 1995. The car benefitted with continuous development, no more so than on series III cars, the front seats where now fully electric and benefitted with both memory and heated options. The wood work featured inlaid crossbanded burr walnut fascia. The digital instruments were deleted and analogue instruments fitted in their place. It was also the last of the cars to be fitted with conventional suspension set up rather then troublesome active ride system which was fitted as standard the following year.
We know this example extremely well having sourced the car in 2016 and then repatriating back home to West London from across the Atlantic. Over the past 5 years the car has covered just over 2,000 miles and the following works have been carried out:
- Wood cappings were removed and reveneered
- 4 new Avon Turbo speed tyres
- Remove & strip hood motor – rectify wiring fault and refit
- Full hydraulic service
- Hood hydraulic motor rebuilt

The Corniche has its origins in the South of France, a part of the world with close associations with Sir Henry Royce, who carried out much of his design work at his winter home La Villa Mimosa at Le Canadel.
On February 4th 1971 Rolls-Royce Ltd went into receivership following an unmanageable blow out of the development costs of the RB211 jet engine, a new larger engine which the company was developing for the new generation of wide-bodied jets, including the Lockhead Tristar. Motor car production, however, continued without interruption on the specific instructions of E.R. Nicholson who was the receiver, subsequently, he separated the motor car and diesel engine divisions from the aero engine business and in May 1973 a new public company Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd, was formed.
